Earth day is April 22nd and we're super excited to be able to share this fabulous bulletin board idea with you {before the fact!}. It was submitted to us by Teri, second grade teacher and creator of the blog, A Cupcake for the Teacher, and we thought it would make a fantastic activity and decorative addition for any early childhood classroom!

I {heart} the Earth by...

To get into the spirit of Earth Day, Teri shared some literature with her kiddos then had them brainstorm various ways they, as individuals and as a class, could help {or heart!} the earth - creating the adorable anchor chart below.

With the ideas fresh in their minds, Teri then had her students write their own 'pledge' to the Earth, completing the prompt, "I heart the Earth by..." and designing a heart-shaped Earth cutout.

We {Heart} The Earth Bulletin Board

  • Background: Sky blue bulletin board paper.
  • Title: "We {Heart} Earth!" - We love how Teri created the title of the board using both words and symbols! Simply cut a large heart cutout from 12" x 12" red glitter scrapbook paper and create the 3D Earth cutout by cutting a large circle from white bulletin board paper, using green and blue craft paint to decorate it, and attach it to the board with bits of crumpled paper or art tissue paper behind it.
  • Border: Rainbow or recycling trimmer.
  • Decoration: The title adds a great focal point and your students' crafts/writing prompts will complete the display!
