Story Laboratory! - Science Themed Library Decor
By Kayla • April 3, 2018
Can you believe it's book fair time again?! While summer is enough to get us excited this time of year, we also eagerly check our inbox because we know that the end of the school year brings with it an email from the lovely ladies of Miami Lakes K-8, sharing their gorgeous decorations for their May book fair! We were not disappointed! In past years they've tackled a space theme, as well as a luau theme - this year, they went all out to create a vibrant 'Story Laboratory'.
Library Entrance. The vibrant color scheme and attention to detail (without going overboard!) really makes the entrance pop! We love the little scientist cutouts that were handmade by Wilda Estrella, a Parent/Volunteer at Miami Lakes, the colorful "Periodic Table of Reading", and the themed element+radioactive warning message signs!
A closer look at some of the elements...
Aren't these such clever ideas?! Keeping with the science theme, this is a fantastic way to feature favorite/famous authors and their published works, as well as create a unique theme message for the book fair - "Lead a better life; read every day!"
Ceiling Detail. Here's another photo of the library entrance - a closer look at the ceiling - and we wanted to draw attention to the detailing! The ladies truly went all out, adding colorful beakers, test tubes, and even a model of an atom!
Science + You = A Great Mix! We love the contrast of the neon paper elements on the black background! While simple - consisting of science equipment/tool cutouts and the custom element signs - the board draws attention and packs a visual punch!
Calling All 'Mad' Scientists! While books are obviously the main focus, we love that the ladies of Miami Lakes strive to make the book fair an experience that the kiddos won't easily forget. With a place to take pictures, tables for participating in hands-on experiments, and a prize drawing for the mini-scientist who can guess the number of 'radioactive worms' in the jar {or closest to the actual number!} - we know the kids will have an absolute blast! [Don't miss the awesome decorating elements in the background. We love that the decorating team was able to display actual tools - microscopes, goggles, etc!]
To the last detail... The decorating team even thought of lab coats for book fair volunteers! How cool is that?!
A BIG thank you to Ibis Mendoza, media specialist at Miami Lakes K-8, and Erica Nunez, parent volunteer and creator of DigiGirl Paper Crafts for sharing these amazing designs! We've said it before, but it bears repeating - the students of Miami Lakes K-8 are lucky to have such talented ladies!
