This post has been a long time coming! All the way back in December, Erica Nunez, creator/designer at DigiGirl Paper Crafts and talented parent volunteer at Miami Lakes K-8 Center, sent us these photos of their awesome fall book fair! While it's a little late, we love the medieval fair theme and think you'll find the decor inspiring!

Coordinated by Ibis Mendoza, the media specialist at MLK8, this year's decorating team included Erica Nunez, Wendy Alonso, Milly Pedraja, and Ana Reyes - and these ladies went above and beyond! As Erica writes, "We use a kit provided by Scholastic with some decor like pre made hanging signs and tabs. But most of our designs are made from scratch with paper and glue!"

Welcome To Sir ReadALot's Medieval Castle!

Knights. Tall spires. Wall sconces and candlelit chandeliers. Colorful banners and coat of arms. This medieval castle has it all!

To bring the castle theme to life, the MLK8 decorating team first covered the walls with flagstone bulletin board paper (or a similar type of paper) to create the illusion of stone walls, then built out a section of the castle wall complete with ivy wrapped spires!

Next, they placed banners along the very top of the wall and hung long tapestries (brightly colored plastic table cloths layered and gathered together) in strategic locations to add pops of color!

Finally, the finishing touches were added - knight cutouts guard the castle doors and walls, sconces line the walls, Sir ReadALot's banner/coat of arms are represented along the walls, and a large chandelier and drawbridge poster (hung on the library doors) creates a grand entrance to the castle!

Inside Sir ReadALot's Castle

Inside the castle is just as grand! More handmade sconces and chandeliers grace the walls and ceilings, a court jester entertains the knights and ladies, and there's even a dragon's lair! Aren't the details amazing!?

These ladies truly are amazing at what they do! Miami Lakes K-8 Center is lucky to have them as part of their team! We are grateful Erica always takes the time to share their creativity with us and look forward to seeing their spring book fair!
