We're only a week and a half into February so you still have plenty of time to add this great bulletin board design from third grade teacher, Beth Sawyer, to your classroom! It's a fabulous way to cover your bases for the Valentine's Day holiday, recognize Black History Month, and get your students involved in the decoration/learning process!

Heart Project

Beth had her students research famous African Americans, reading nonfiction works/biographies, and write a summary of their life. The final drafts were penned onto heart shaped cutouts with a picture of the person.

Get to the Heart of Black History

  • Title: "Get to the Heart of Black History!"
  • Border: Valentine's Day themed trimmer or a complimentary solid color/patterned trimmer. You might also create a paper heart garland to put in place of a border.
  • Decoration: Use your students' heart summaries!
