"Wild" Preschool Sunday School Classroom Decorating Ideas

By Kayla • April 3, 2018

I {Kayla} teach a preschool class at my church and was thrilled to have the opportunity to do a little decorating! Since it's my current favorite, I chose to do a safari theme - which happened to work out perfectly since our curriculum is called "Tracker" - thus my kiddos have become little tracker/adventurers on 'safari', exploring and uncovering the stories/truth in God's word!

My first order of business - find some awesome clip art to go along with the theme. I found some awesome designs at MyGrafico...

I also found these adorable Jungle Safari Kids from the Wonderlandz Etsy shop.

Because three separate classes share the room throughout the week, I was only given one bulletin board and a bit of wall space, but here's what I've come up with so far!

Safari Theme Wall Mural

The classroom walls are in need of a new coat of paint {which, unfortunately, isn't going to happen any time soon}, so I decided to create a mini safari themed mural. I created a transparency of the jungle animal clip art and used the church's projector to enlarge and trace the images onto white bulletin board paper. I used acrylic craft paint to add some color to the images and entitled the mural, "God Is Wild About You!" {with animal print letters!}. It still seems a little bare, so my plan is to add some nice green foliage around the entire display - either using card stock leaf cutouts or actual silk greenery purchased at our local craft shop.

Featuring Our Fabulous 'Trackers'

Preschoolers love when they recognize their name floating around the classroom. To feature my awesome class of 'trackers' and the theme verse for our curriculum, I used the purchased clip art from Etsy, various leaf images I found online, and animal print name plates. [NOTE: Along with various animal prints, I elected to include neon green and pink in the theme color scheme.] Each word of the theme verse - "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:13 -  is featured on a different leaf cutout and I printed each students' name on neon paper then mounted the smaller circles onto an animal print circle to create name plates.

Wild About God's Word

Each unit is divided into six lessons, and each lesson has a unique key verse. Taking from this fabulous display created by Jessica Pollard of Tales of a Teacherista - I created a verse ribbon. [The picture is pretty horrible, but hopefully you'll be able to get the gist!] My circles are a bit more spaced out - not how I would have preferred it - but so goes it!

All I have to put up yet is my safari birthday train - I'll be sure to post it here when I finish!
