Elect To Read! - Election Themed Reading Bulletin Board Idea
By Kayla • April 3, 2018
To highlight the coming election, Erica Nunez, designer over at DigiGirl Paper Crafts, and the decorating crew of Miami Lakes K-8 created this colorful board for their library and we think it would make a great board for the classroom as well! Featuring photos of the candidates, election vocabulary, and even a fun ballot box - this is a fun way to teach your students a little more about the electoral process and instill in them the importance of doing their civic duty.
Elect To Read!
- Background: Red bulletin board paper.
- Title: "F'READ'OM! Elect To Read!", "2012 Election Headquarters", etc.
- Border: Patriotic bulletin board trimmer.
-
Decoration: 1) The Election Word Wall. The original design displays Scholastic Teaching Resources' election word wall mini bulletin board set {shown below}.
However, using word processing software, you can certainly create and print your own vocabulary words, printing them onto card stock and arranging them around the board. 2) The Election Symbols. The symbols on the original board also come from Scholastic Teaching Resources' election word wall mini bulletin board set - the party symbols, the White House, the Statue of Liberty, etc. You could also find images online to print onto card stock, cut out, and display. 3) The Current Candidates. In addition to important election symbols and vocabulary, we love how Erica and the decorating team added a 'current events' twist, displaying pictures of the candidates. They used Scholastic News' feature of the presidential candidates.
