If you're looking for a fun way to decorate your classroom for the coming observance of Columbus Day, how about tweaking this idea to create both a display and class activity? There's nothing more festive than adding a life-size Christopher Columbus to your wall, and there are tons of great activities you can incorporate it into...
- Math. Great for measuring practice, invite your kiddos to compare their height to that of Columbus!
- History. Create accents of the various maritime/navigation tools (i.e. compass, spyglass, etc.), special clothing, and other important items that Columbus would have used on his voyage. As you talk about them with your students, add them to the display.
- General. Use it as a life-size anchor chart, placing post-its of things your students know about Christopher Columbus on it and adding facts learned throughout the day/unit.
These are just a few of the ways you might decide to put your Christopher Columbus cutout to good use!
