Perfect for President's Day or another patriotic holiday, this star necklace craft from Diane over at TeachWithMe.com is sure to be a hit with your kiddos! Not only will they enjoy sporting an actual penny, they'll love the 'cent'iment and be proud to receive such praise!

Craft variations...

  • Instead of a necklace, glue a brooch pin to the back of the heart so students can wear them on their clothing!
  • Affix a magnet to the back of the heart so they can be displayed on the refrigerator once taken home.

Also, you can use these crafts to create an ordering activity. Create stars with pennies from consecutive years - i.e. 2000, 2001...2012. Have students place the penny stars in order, clipping them to a clothesline with mini clothespins, placing them in a pocket chart, or attaching them to a poster board activity board using Velcro dots.

Whether you decide to use these fun crafts for wearing or learning {or both!}, be sure to visit TeachWithMe.com for the full tutorial!
