Celebrating Dr. Seuss - Fun with Scrambled Eggs Super!

Dr Seuss Read Across America Kindergarten Lesson PlanSearching for fun Seuss-inspired activities for the famous author's birthday and Read Across America, we stumbled upon Happy Birthday Author, a site created by Eric Van Raepenbusch to chronicle the fun adventures he and his family have celebrating various author and illustrator birthdays! {Isn't that a neat concept?!} This years unique Seuss post, specifically Eric's fabulous craftivity inspired by Scrambled Eggs Super, caught our eye and we simply had to pass it along. We know your kiddos will have a blast with it! A little about the book...

Scrambled Eggs Super tells the story of young Peter T. Hooper who, bored with regular old scrambled eggs, embarks on a journey to find and collect eggs from unique birds - Moth-Watching Sneths, Long-Legger Kwongs, etc. - to spice up his breakfast!

The craftivity...

In full Seuss style, Eric suggests inviting your kiddos to create their own collection of quirky birds! First, using his fun 'name generator' tool, have students come up with new bird names. Then, armed with a bird assignment, have each student use their imagination to determine what the bird's egg would look like. [NOTE: Eric had his kiddos use markers and plastic Easter eggs to create egg models!] Finally, have students draw the new bird. Your students will have a blast perusing the collection of eggs and birds inspired by the story!
