Attempting to sift through the vast number of Olympics related books in order to find a few 'greats' for your preschoolers can be a hit or miss. Book recommendations offer a great place to start - helping you narrow down your search field. Several fabulous websites have compiled book lists to compliment your learning during the Olympic Games and we thought we'd pass them along in the event they'd be helpful...

  • Build excitement for the games, as well as explore the geography and culture of the Summer Olympic Games host city, with this fabulous list of books about London - compiled by Rebecca, creator of ThirteenRedShoes and featured contributor at Playful Learning! [We especially love "Pop-Up London" by Jennie Maizels!]
  • A great mix of nonfiction, poetry, and picture books - explore the history of the Olympics and experience the intense emotion that the games provoke with these "gold medal" literature selections from Reading Rockets!
  • Age-appropriate as well as engaging, these book suggestions from Jenae over at I Can Teach My Child invite your kiddos to explore how the Olympic Games have evolved - from their inception in Ancient Greece to their place in our world today {including the Special Olympics}.

Of course, these lists are simply a few of the book selections available! Here are a few others you might not want to leave out...

  • "How to Train with a T-Rex and Win 8 Gold Medals" by Michael Phelps
  • "Touch the Sky: Alice Coachman, Olympic High Jumper" by Ann Malaspina
  • "Winners Never Quit" by Mia Hamm

Be sure to check out these awesome book lists - or talk to your library media specialist for their suggestions - and get learning!
