Found this SUPER awesome post by Nikkala of The Crafting Chicks and had to share some of the fantastic preschool science ideas she unearthed for "science camp" with her kiddos! Give them a try or put them in your inspiration folder for future use - you won't want to miss out!

DIY Magnetic Silly Putty {shown right}

With a few simple ingredients, your kiddos will be amazed as the familiar malleable compound they may have played with on numerous occasions becomes suddenly magnetic! Explore how different types and strengths of magnets affect the putty, discussing the results with you mini-scientists. You might even consider creating putties of various magnetic strengths by adding different amounts of the ferrous {magnetic} component to each. Whatever you play and exploration dictates, it's sure to be a blast!

Walking Water

Nikkala found this fun experiment at Sherry & Donna's fabulous preschool blog, Irresistible Ideas for Play Based Learning. Simply using two plastic cups, a strip of paper towel, and colored water, your kiddos will be amazed as they watch the paper towel absorb and siphon the water from the first cup to the second cup. Lots of fantastic new vocabulary to be learned, procedures to follow {to the letter}, and fun to be had with this experiment - who wouldn't like to tell their family and friends that they made water "walk"! Be sure to visit Irresistible Ideas for the full experiment workup.

These are just two of the fantastic explorations, activities, and experiments Nikkala has planned for "Science Camp 2011". Be sure to follow the link back to The Crafting Chicks to check out her full post and her Pinterest page!
