How great is this gross/fine motor building activity from Kristin over at Exploring the Outdoor Classroom?! We love how her kiddos not only worked to pound the golf tees into the pumpkins, but also used the other side of the hammer to pull out the tees.

If you don't feel comfortable putting a real hammer in your preschoolers hand {since it'll take a bit of muscle and real tools to get them in}, there's always the option of spray painting Styrofoam balls with orange craft paint and inviting them to use toy mallets to tap them in.
