Literacy Center - Squishing Sight Words
By Kayla • April 3, 2018
How fun is this sight word game from Ashley over at Life with Moore Babies?! At first, looking at the picture, we originally thought the activity was completed with play dough. However, after heading over to read the full post, we saw that Ashley and her kiddos used colorful baked cotton balls! {Inspired by Mary Ann Kohl's fabulous book, Art With Anything!} Armed with the baked and cooled cotton balls, all you need is a permanent marker and assorted 'squishing tools' and you're in business!
Game variations...
- Print one set of sight words onto the cotton balls. Call out a sight word inviting players to take turns locating and identifying the correct sight word cotton ball. If they identify the correct sight word, allow them to squish and keep the cotton ball. If incorrect, the sight word cotton ball stays intact, the sight word is added back to the pile, and another word is called for the next player. The player with the most cotton balls at the end of the game, wins!
- Print one set of sight words onto the cotton balls. Invite students to take turns selecting a cotton ball and identifying the sight word printed on it. Identified correctly, allow students to squish and keep the cotton ball. If misidentified, students must leave the cotton ball in place and the next player gets a chance to play. The player with the most cotton balls at the end of the game, wins!
- Print two sets of sight words onto the cotton balls. Invite students to take turns identifying and squishing sight word matches.
