French Fry Math - Recycled Counting Exercise

By Kayla • April 3, 2018

Recycled Counting Math Preschool Lesson PlanWe love the idea of recycling items from around the house to create new and exciting activities for the classroom. If you're a fast food junkie {or can convince the nice worker behind the counter to spare a few containers}, here's a fun counting activity that uses french fry containers!

Recycled Counting Math Preschool Lesson Plan
  1. Gather a large yellow sponge, cutting board, and a sharp serrated knife. Use the knife to cut the sponge into "french fry like" pieces.

  3. Collect your recycled french fry containers, using word processing software or markers and a piece of paper to create number labels. Paste a different numeral on the outside of each container.

  5. To play, invite your students to identify the numeral on the outside of each container, then count out the correct number of sponge "french fries" and place them in the container.

This homemade exercise is perfect for strengthening number recognition and counting skills! However, if you prefer to abstain from advertising for the fast food joints in your area, be sure to check out our alternative french fry counting activity tomorrow!
