Celebrating Our Veterans - Anchor Chart, Writing Prompts, & More!
By Kayla • April 3, 2018
Last year, Sophie over at A Day in the Life of Miss. Kranz put together a great Veterans Day lesson plan that we think does a great job of encouraging your students to examine what they know about the holiday and why it's important to show respect to the servicemen and women, past and present, who give of themselves to serve our country.
They started out the day by using Sophie's adorable anchor chart to discuss what Veterans Day is all about, what a veteran is, what veterans do/have done for our country, and the character traits veterans share. This is a fun way to introduce the holiday and get your kiddos to thinking. Next, the group worked with/reviewed vocabulary words commonly associated with the holiday - soldier, hero, veteran, respect, and service. And finally, to finish out their day, Sophie had her kiddos complete and illustrate the writing prompt, "How do veterans show bravery?" {The best part is she provides her writing prompt printable for FREE over at her blog!}
