Reading and Literacy Center Kindergarten Lesson Plan

We seem to be stumbling on a lot of new blogs lately {which is always fun!} and have been finding lots of new resources perfect for the kindergarten classroom! Check out this lovely word work center from Anita over at Mrs. Bremer's Kindergarten!

First of all, we'd like to say that we love her tiara idea. If you're looking for a way to reduce student interruption while you work with a small group or at your desk, be sure to check it out!

As for the word work center, there are tons of great elements. Our favorites...

  • Sight Word Emergent Readers. Students find and highlight the focus word then read the book, tracking the print with 'fancy fingernails'! [Anita has previously posted about fancy fingernails, so be sure to visit and find out what they're all about. We think they're a fantastic reading tool!]
  • High-Five Sight Word Chart {pictured above}. The week's focus words are displayed on the chart and students are invited to say the word aloud and high-five it as they leave the classroom! Not only does it provide reading practice {in a unique way}, the physical act of slapping the poster creates a connection between the student and the new words.

For these and other great word work center ideas, be sure to visit Mrs. Bremer's Kindergarten!
