Yes, we know these are apple cutouts {perfect for a back-to-school or Johnny Appleseed day themed center!}, but we thought this would be a super cute Halloween or fall activity - simply exchange the apples for pumpkins! Only you know your students and, what's great, the puzzles are fully customizable and can include any elements you choose...

  • Numerals
  • Number words
  • Tally marks
  • Die faces
  • Stickers
  • Simple addition problems
  • Simple subtraction problems

Another great thing, you can create as many puzzles as you need/want, with specific intervals, focus letters, etc. [Extension: Have students practice ordering the pumpkin puzzles when they're finished assembling them. Challenge them by having them do skip counting by 2s or 3s, etc.]

Be sure to visit F is for First Grade where we found the awesome apple puzzles that inspired this activity!
