It's neat to see how students grow from the beginning of the school year to the end. Let your students in on the fun with this great time capsule exercise from Stephanie Kincaid at Mrs. Kincaid's First Grade!

On the first day of school {or in the first week of school}, Stephanie has her kiddos fill out an information sheet...

  • Age
  • Favorites {i.e. color, book, food, etc.}
  • Future {i.e. what they expect from the new school year, what they want to be when they grow up, etc.}

These papers then get collected and placed in a "time capsule". [NOTE: A time capsule made from a Pringles can would be super cute!] At the end of the year, students are then asked to fill out the same information sheet, comparing it to the old sheet that has been "unearthed".

Other things you might consider adding for comparison {if students make/decorate their own time capsules}...

  • Photograph
  • Self portrait
  • String measuring their height

We think this is a fabulous way to start out the new year - and a great way to get to know your new students!
