Valentine's Day is right around the corner and if you need any last minute activity ideas, check out these great ideas from Jennifer at Herding Kats in Kindergarten. Sorting. Graphing. Counting. Addition. These activities offer tons of great skill practice! Not to mention, Jennifer offers {FREE} printables for each exercise!

  • Conversation Hearts Sorting. Brush up on color words and sorting skills with this fun activity - all you need is a box of conversation hearts and the sorting mat!
  • Conversation Hearts Graphing. The sorting activity is the perfect precursor for this exercise. Simply invite your kiddos to 'transfer' their results to the graph worksheet and use the data to answer the questions!
  • Conversation Hearts Addition. Using the worksheets provided and the candy hearts as counting manipulatives, invite your students to solve each of the problems, writing the answer in the space provided.
  • Conversation Hearts Word Problems. In their math journals, invite your students to illustrate the word problem in order to solve it (or use their candy heart manipulatives, of course!).

[NOTE: All of these activities work great as centers. Simply laminate the worksheets and have students use the candy heart manipulatives or dry erase markers where needed!]

For the free downloads and lots of other great resources, be sure to visit Herding Kats in Kindergarten!
