Part 2 - Luau Book Fair
By Kayla • April 3, 2018
Ibis, Celeste, and Erica have been working hard to get the media center ready for their annual book fair. This year's theme - a LUAU! While you most of you are focused solely on finishing out the current school year, if you happen to be in the market for a fun, colorful theme for you classroom or learning/media center next year, we think this would be a blast!
Library/Book Fair Entrance
{Pictured above} Check out the detailing! Seagulls, tiki torches, and sand - oh my! Covering the walls with aqua bulletin board paper and the doors with natural butcher paper, the decorating trio had a beautiful blank canvas to work with. And work they did!
The Volcano. The Miami Lakes K-8 media center is erupting with great books! Creating the volcano from brown bulletin board paper, the ladies added strips of red, orange, and yellow paper to create oozing "trails of lava" and, along with the covers of favorite books, added scraps of gray, purple, and brown paper to create the ash and debris of the 'erupting' volcano!
The Beach & Tiki Bar. Attaching a large piece of natural butcher paper to the bottom of the display and extending it out onto the floor, the decorating trio created a beach - with actual sand and shells! This offered a great area for staging. Along with colorful handmade/painted cutouts - a large tiki statue, palm tree, sun, seagulls, and other sea creatures - and a fantastic sandcastle made from actual sandpaper, the ladies added lots of fun 3D elements to the scene as well. A beach chair, beach umbrella, beach balls, flippers, blow up beach toys/floaties, buckets, shovels, and so much more!

We know the students, parents, and staff of Miami Lakes K-8 couldn't help but be impressed with the time and planning that went into these fabulous decorations! Be sure to check back tomorrow for the rest of the colorful displays/boards!
