We couldn't resist this sweet little camping themed behavior management display. How fun are the fireflies?! While some groups of students never need the added incentive, for those classrooms that might need a little extra behavior boost, this positive behavior management idea is not only cute, it's also a fun way to get students to work together to make positive choices and earn fun rewards!

Here's how it works...

Students are divided into 'cabins' and a mason jar cutout assigned to each group. Then, working together and holding each other accountable, students work to earn fireflies for exceptional behavior - i.e. compliments from other teachers, a whole week where everyone in the group stays at green or higher on the clip chart, etc. Once students have earned a specified number of fireflies, the group gets a reward - i.e. write with a pen, sit with a friend, 5 minutes free iPad time, etc.

'GLOW'ing Behavior!

• Background: Paint a large piece of poster board with black, purple, and blue craft paint to create the 'night sky'.
• Title: "GLOWing Behavior!"
• Border: Complimentary patterned border.
• Decoration: 1) The Mason Jars. We created several templates you can . Print the mason jar cutouts onto white card stock. Color the top with a silver Sharpie then use scissors to cut out the middle of the jar, leaving a thin edge. Laminate the cutouts and attach to the poster board. 2) The Fireflies. Use yellow craft paint and a silver Sharpie to make thumbprint fireflies directly on the laminated mason jars! So that you don't have to pull out the paint at inopportune times to create a single firefly, keep a running total of fireflies and add them (with much pomp and ceremony) to the jars at the end of the each week. [NOTE: For extra fun, use glow in the dark paint!]
