C'mon, Let's Ride the - Spelling - Train!
By Kayla • April 3, 2018
Great for printing practice, learning new vocabulary, and early reading practice, this spelling word train from Valerie at The Crafty Classroom is the perfect addition to your writing or literacy center! Provide word lists for your kiddos to use, having them identify each letter and script it onto the box cars, or create box car tracing cards {shown left} to help your preschoolers along. Then, with the finished printables, you might...
- Have students assemble their completed printables onto a long strip of colored bulletin board paper to be hung around the classroom or sent home.
- Invite students to cut out each card, pasting it onto a piece of colored construction paper {that has been cut to the proper size}, making them into a flip book using a binder ring or booklet by stapling the edges together.
Instead of individual practice pages, you might consider creating a reusable classroom activity set. Simply print out the engine and box cars {scripting or printing traceable words if desired}, laminate them, and mount them to an activity board or hold the cards together with a binder ring. Place the activity set in the writing/literacy center with a dry erase marker and soft cloth for students to complete, then wipe clean for the next student.
[NOTE: This activity would make the perfect addition to your "Transportation Unit"!]
