Change Things Up At The Sand & Water Table!

Sensory play is important to every child’s development. There are all kinds of fun activities that help children develop their sensory skills. One of the most common ways especially in the classroom is to use a sand and water table. Those have been around for quite awhile and children seem to always have a blast playing in the sand and burying and digging up a variety of objects. Sand and water tables can get a little bit messy at times, but with a little supervision it’s usually not too bad. What most people don’t think of for whatever reason is replacing the sand with other substances like dried pasta or cornmeal. By using other substances besides just sand, children can get a feel for a variety of different textures. It’s a great way to introduce new concepts to children. Also, by using things like dried pasta you can eliminate some of the mess, which is always a good thing! So next time you are out of sand or you just want to do something a little bit different grab some cornmeal, dried pasta, or whatever else you can think of. As long as the children can get a little dirty while they are playing I don’t think they will mind using something other than sand!
