ABCs of Art - Hh is for...
By Kayla • April 3, 2018
We love extending learning with fun crafts and unique art experiences! Perfect for the younger set who are just learning their letters or even for the older crowd who might simply enjoy exploring new art mediums and techniques, this set of printables + activities works its way through the alphabet, inviting students to explore a different art experience for each letter of the alphabet – i.e. Aa is for apple printing, Bb is for balloon painting, Cc is for circle art, etc. When bound together upon completion, your kiddos will have a colorful and unique review tool and/or art portfolio! BONUS: Because we love options, we’re attempting to give various project ideas for each letter so that you can pick and choose… or do them all!

The next installment of the 'ABCs of Art' series features the letter H and two fun projects - heart art and hand print art! We had a blast with both, using our imaginations to create 'heart creatures' as well as discovering the fun of using scented paints to create our Thanksgiving inspired hand print pictures!

Hh is for Heart Art

Simple, yet fun! We used paper hearts – in various sizes and colors – to create pictures! We loved this project because it offered such a great opportunity for stretching the imagination!
[NOTE: The above picture shows hearts of one size. We had used these cutouts in another project and, in the spirit of not wasting paper, simply used scissors to cut them to the size we needed. If just starting out, you can simply provide your kiddos with paper to cut as they please or pre-cut hearts of assorted sizes so your kiddos can focus on creation - it's your call!]

Hh is for Hand Print Art

While this isn't a new project, it's such a fun sensory experience that we had to include it in our portfolio! Because of the timing, we experimented with Thanksgiving themed hand print characters – the Mayflower, a Native American, and a pumpkin! To offer a more unique (and extra sensory) hand printing experience, we also used scented paints – reminiscent of Thanksgiving dinner.
- Cranberry Red (cranberry essential oil, cranberry syrup, cranberry flavoring extract)
- Pumpkin Pie Orange (pumpkin pie spice)
- Clove Yellow
- Sage Green
- Turkey Brown (turkey gravy mix)

First, we made our paint prints.

Then we used a black permanent marker, as well as construction paper scraps, to add detailing/label our dried prints.
