Example Activity: {Occupations} Zookeeper

After reading Mary Jean Hendrick's If Anything Ever Goes Wrong at the Zoo, invite your kiddos to think about the different duties performed by a zookeeper.

They train animals in order to take care of them better. For example, zookeepers train grizzly bears to stick their long claws through the fence so that they can be cut and shaped {for safety purposes}.
They feed the animals.
Zookeepers maintain the animals' living spaces - clearing out waste, cleaning up unsafe debris, etc.

After brainstorming a list of zookeeper duties, have students use Ami's "Zookeeper Hot Dog Book" printable {pictured above right} to record each of them using drawings and simple sentences.
