Are you and your kiddos "buggy" for spring?! This adorable bulletin board created by first grade teacher, Mrs. Parson, and featured at Garden of Praise is certain to add some lively color to your classroom walls and inspired several fun lessons in the process!

Buggy Students

Mrs. Parson had her students use a color photograph of themselves, a generic bug 'body' template, colored card stock, chenille stems, sequins, and other craft embellishments to make themselves into 'bugs'. For more bug 'variety', consider adapting black and white clip art images found online or through your word processing software into various templates for your students to choose from and use to create ladybugs, honey bees, flies, crickets, etc.

"Bug"-cause...

Perfect for end-of-the-year reflections or even a unit on insects/bugs, here are a few prompts you might consider having your kiddos complete:

"_______________ (First Grade, Mrs. Parson's Class, Math, etc.) is cool 'bug'-cause..."
"I'm looking forward to _______________ (insert next grade level) 'bug'-cause..."
"I love summer 'bug'-cause..."

As you can see, most themes/subjects can be adapted for this prompt and bulletin board so don't be afraid to have fun with it!

"I Spy..." Bug Bulletin Board

Background: White, yellow, or light green background paper.
Title: "I Spy With My Little Bug Eyes..."; You might also consider tailoring the title to fit your prompt. For example, "We Love Summer 'Bug'-cause..." or "Buggy About Summer", etc. Mrs. Parson painted the title onto a piece of white background paper, but you could also use traditional bulletin board letters.
Border: Mrs. Parson used a combination of rainbow bulletin board borders and looped ribbon. You might also consider using a traditional spring themed bulletin board border for the entire board or just continuing the rainbow trimmer around all four edges.
Decoration: Use your 'buggy' students along with their responses to the writing prompt {just mount the journal pages onto a colorful piece of construction paper or card stock for extra visual interest!}
