Summer Star Unit - My Stargazing Journal
By Kayla • April 3, 2018
If you have time for a summer star unit, consider having your kiddos complete a star/sky study at home, recording their findings in their personal stargazing journal. Not only will this exercise allow your kiddos to observe what they're learning about in a natural setting, it's a great way to get parents or older siblings involved {as assistant astronomers}!
As "Lead Astronomer" in the activity, your students {with the help of their 'assistants', of course!}, will be asked to record/describe the...
- Date, time, and location of the study
- Names of any assistants
- Weather conditions
- Constellations recognized
Additionally, on each sky/star study journal page, students are given a space to draw a picture of the night sky. This is a great way to encourage independent study, simulate data collection, and provide your kiddos with a fun way to learn about the world around them!
