Leprechaun, Leprechaun, What Do You See?

We celebrate St. Patrick's Day in a few weeks and, if you're looking for some fun printable activities to include in your lessons and plans, here are a few you might consider including...

St. Patrick's Day Emergent Reader Preschool Printable

Written in the familiar style of popular children's author, Eric Carle, this FREE emergent reader created by Jill of Enchanted Homeschooling Mom is a great way to introduce themed vocabulary and review sight words. Not to mention, the predictable sentences that mimic a classroom story time favorite will give your new readers confidence that they can read the story on their own.

Along with the colorful pages that help bring the holiday to life, we love that this emergent reader offers many learning options...

  • Use the reader to create a shared reading experience {follow the link for an example}. Print the text onto sentence strips and enlarge the clip art, creating an interactive display to help you read the 'book' together. Leave the display up, adding a pointer, that will allow your kiddos to read it on their own - using the pointer to point to each word as they read it.
  • Tracing each page is a fantastic handwriting exercise and also helps your kiddos connect with each word as they read and trace. Consider selecting a focus sight word (e.g. see, what, etc), that your students must circle, highlight, or underline - for extra practice.
  • Encourage partner reading, inviting your students to practice reading the book to a classmate.
  • Provide your kiddos with fun reading tools to get them excited about their emergent reader! Perhaps a shamrock pointer or some fancy reading glasses!
