It's crazy to think that Halloween season is right around the corner! To get your writing center ready for the holiday, we found this adorable word mat from kindergarten teacher, Kerri, at Teacher Bits and Bobs. As a word mat, it provides a great introduction to the vocabulary the kiddos will be encountering and provides them with a list of new words to incorporate in their creative writing/writing prompts. Cut apart, this printable offers a whole lot of extra applications for your kiddos to enjoy!

  • Match and Trace.Create a worksheet or interactive emergent reader where students must cut and paste the word cards to the page/line that features the matching word then trace each vocabulary word.

  • Concentration. Print two mats, cut word cards apart, and have your kiddos test their memory/matching skills with a game of concentration.
  • Three-Part Cards. Create three-part matching cards by printing two word mats. From the first mat, cut the cards apart, leaving them whole. From the second mat, cut the cards apart, then separate the vocabulary word from the picture. Students will then have to match both the picture and the word to the correct vocabulary card.Halloween Literacy Preschool Printable
