Groundhog Day Emergent Reader - The Shape of My Shadow!
Diane over at Teach With Me created this great FREE resource for helping your preschoolers review shapes this Groundhog Day! The premise - Punxsutawney Phil has emerged from his burrow only to find the sun in his eyes and it's doing funny things to his shadow. He knows the shadows he's seeing aren't the right shape, but he doesn't know what they are. Students are invited to help Phil determine the shape of his shadow - tracing the shape word, writing the shape word, and tracing Phil's shape shadow. For extra practice, review the concepts of print and building reading skills, Diane suggest also having students circle the capital letters at the beginning of each sentence and add ending punctuation.
