If you're looking for a last minute activity to do with your kiddos this Independence Day, check out this awesome patriotic flag play dough mat created by Angela of Teaching Mama! The perfect exercise for building small motor function, Angela even includes a recipe for soft, malleable homemade play dough - and with it, lots of flexibility. For example, you might consider adding scents to the dough for a more rounded sensory experience! Kool-aid drink mix packets are relatively inexpensive and would work great for this purpose. For the blue and red dough try blue raspberry and strawberry or cherry. Of course, you'll have to be careful with the white play dough. Consider selecting a clear substance like almond or peppermint extract so that the play dough won't take on a weird color. In addition to scents, you might also consider adding glitter to the mix for an extra element of fun!
