Perfect for an apple unit or Johnny Appleseed Day (which is coming up on March 11th!), this apple seed experiment is sure to be a hit with your kiddos!
In order to complete the experiment, you'll need;
Combine the water and baking soda in the glass, stirring until dissolved. Add the apple seeds, then stir in the lemon juice and watch what happens. The reaction between the baking soda and lemon juice produces bubbles that carry the seeds up and down, making it look like the seeds are 'jumping'!
While the experiment, in and of itself, is great; the added activity sheet also invites your students to familiarize themselves with various steps in the scientific method - identifying/developing a research question, developing a hypothesis, conducting an experiment, observing/recording data, and drawing conclusions!
