Apple Math Centers - Apple Name Graphing

By Kayla • April 3, 2018

Back To School and Fall Themed Apple Math Kindergarten Lesson Plan Not only is fall a great time to explore apple themed lessons, with it being the beginning of the school year, it's also a great time to build name recognition! Here's a fun graphing exercise that incorporates both!

How it works...

  • Print student names onto colorful apple cutouts. [NOTE: Simply find an apple template or coloring page online, use word processing software to add student names, then print and cut. Or you might purchase colorful apple cutouts at your favorite teacher store.]

  • Place the apples in a basket and provide students with a sorting mat and recording sheet.

Example sorting baskets
  • To complete the activity, first have students empty the basket and sort the apples on the sorting mat - i.e. count the number of letters in the name on each apple and sort it into the appropriate numbered basket on the sorting mat. Next, have students count the number of apples in each basket and record the results on their recording sheet.
  • Analyze the data as a class.
  • {print, cut out the individual baskets, and laminate to reduce wear and tear}
