What is Traffic?

When working with the younger crowd, many teachers start out their road safety lessons with an activity that reviews the concept of traffic. Mrs. Adams transportation sort would offer a great compliment to this activity! First, invite students to sort each mode of transportation onto the correct mat - road, sky, water, or track. Once this has been completed, work together to make a list of the vehicles that are considered 'road traffic' and other transportation vehicles you might encounter on the road. [NOTE: Remind your kiddos to think outside of the box since one of the transportation vehicles you might encounter while driving, a train, is not sorted onto the road mat!]

Traffic Signs

A road safety unit offers the perfect opportunity to discuss road signs - what they mean and how they keep us safe. Again, Mrs. Adams road sign match and stop light cut & glue would make excellent supplemental activities! The printables offer a great way to review important road signs in a fun and engaging way, as well as build other skills like memory, matching, ordering, and fine motor coordination.

There are, of course, other great transportation themed activities as well. Be sure to visit Printable Share to check out the full unit!
