Columbus Day - Creating Boats from Found Materials

Columbus Day Recycled Boat Craft for Kids

We love this boat craft we found over at Naturally Educational. Created using found and recycled materials, your students will have a blast taking a field trip to the school yard to collect twigs for their projects. Additionally, we think this is a great way to show your students how items found around the house can be repurposed!

Other things we love...

  • It's three-dimensional! The boat and sails stand up on their own and the 'waves' lapping at the side of the ship - created using scraps of blue tissue paper - are super cool!
  • It's inspired by real expedition ships of the time period! Before beginning the project, Candace printed out a picture for inspiration. She and her daughter used it to make sure they had the correct number of masts, that the sails/flags were accurately placed, etc.

The result is super cool and offers a great take-home lesson reminder! Be sure to head on over to Naturally Educational for the project tutorial!
