Working on patterning with your kiddos? Here's a fun summer-inspired ice cream themed activity from Kelley over at Teacher Idea Factory! The activity has two parts...

  • Worksheet Patterning. First you and your preschoolers can work together review and practice various patterns - AB, AAB, ABB, and ABC. Crayons work great for coloring the ice cream scoops, but you might also consider inviting your kiddos to use BINGO daubers, craft puffs, or even circle stickers.
  • Hands-on Patterning. After your kiddos have had a chance to review the various patterns, provide them with Kelley's ice cream cone template, inviting them to cut it out and create their own pattern - gluing the colored pieces together and adding a pattern label to the cone! This hands-on activity offers a great opportunity for students to independently put their new learning into practice and for you to assess who's got the hang of it and who might need more practice!
