April Earth Day Writing Kindergarten Lesson Plan

Check out this awesome Earth Day lesson from Jessica Williamson of Welcome to Room 36! We just love the beautiful anchor chart, the use of inspiring poetry, and the fun writing prompt that we know will get your kinders thinking!

The Anchor Chart

To begin the lesson, Jessica and her kiddos discussed how they -  as individuals and as a class - can take care of the Earth. We love how each child's name is printed around the edge of the cutout - it's a great reminder that everyone is responsible for keeping the Earth clean and can also double as a pledge that each individual student will do their part in caring for our planet. We also like how Jessica incorporated poetry into the lesson! {The verse is so simple that it wouldn't be a stretch to invite your kiddos to try and memorize the lines as they work... That way, they'll have something to share with their families when they get home, and a great reminder of what Earth Day is all about!}

Earth Day Craftivity

It's one thing to talk about making a difference, but making a pledge to the Earth requires students to take responsibility and action. We love how Jessica added a fun twist to the traditional writing prompt, inviting students to write about how they would "make the Earth glitter"! The crafts/writing prompts turned out so beautifully, they would make a fantastic Earth Day classroom display!
