Fall Leaf Count & Stamp Activity
Fall isn't complete without a fun leaf counting activity! This one is perfect because it combines a fun craft with free printables!
DIY Fall Leaf Potato Stamps
We found these awesome DIY fall leaf potato stamps over at The Kid-Friendly Home and thought the project, created by Lindsey, would make the perfect compliment! We love the idea that the stamps are fully customizable. Oak leaves, maple leaves, birch leaves, etc. - create one or create them all, it's up to you! [NOTE: Because of the use of a paring knife, we recommend that the stamps be made by an adult.]
Fall Leaf Count & Stamp Activity
Here's how the activity works...
- Download the free printables. Included in the download is a blank fall tree activity mat and a set of numbers - one through fifteen. You'll need an activity mat and number for each student completing the activity. We suggest placing the numbers in a small basket.
- Provide students with activity mats, shallow trays of paint, and potato leaf stamps. Invite each student to select a number from the basket and glue it to their worksheet. Then, once they've identified the numeral, have them use their potato stamp to add the correct number of leaves to their tree.
- After each student has had a chance to complete the activity, work as a class to put the trees in order from least amount of leaves to most amount of leaves! (It's ok if there are duplicates!)
NOTE: While the concept of using a stamp to complete the activity does not make it reusable in the least, the changeable numbers allow you to create a reusable activity by placing the activity sheet in a plastic document sleeve and inviting students to draw leaves on the tree with dry erase markers!
