Because the shapes are so large, you'll have to cut the trunk shape from brown bulletin board paper, the foliage from green bulletin board paper, and the large apple from red bulletin board paper. Not to mention, a parallel can be drawn to their scholastic career as a whole; learning gives them 'wings'!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eHand Print Caterpillars\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe best part about this bulletin board design is that you can get your kiddos in on the action! To create the hand print caterpillars, you'll need four prints. Have your kiddos help each other cover their palm and fingers (no thumb!) with washable craft paint, then press their painted hand to a piece of white card stock to create a print. Invite them to repeat this process three times, creating three prints side by side. This will become the caterpillar's 'body'. [NOTE: As Darcel and her kiddos did, you might consider alternating the colors used.] To create the head, have your cover only their palm with paint and add another print right next to the caterpillar 'body'. Cut a simple fluffy cloud from white bulletin board paper and a sun from yellow bulletin board paper. Add these elements to the light blue background. 3) The Flowers. The flowers will be added to both backgrounds. Freehand flowers and stems onto construction paper or find templates that can be traced and cut out. Cut a large half circle from yellow bulletin board paper, attaching it in the center of the board where the royal blue paper meets the light blue paper (or on the 'horizon' where the ocean 'meets' the sky). Create the sun's 'rays' with long strips of yellow and orange paper. To complete the 'oceanscape', cut fluffy cloud shapes from white construction paper and arrange them in the sky. 2) The Plam Trees. Seriously, we can't get over these palm trees! Cut the trunk shapes from brown bulletin board paper, then cut lots of large palm fronds from green bulletin board paper - i.e. a long leaf shape with fringed edges. When creating the tree, arrange the fronds around a central point (like you would a flower), twisting and tucking the branches in order to create the illusion that it is a three-dimensional palm tree. Michelle writes, \"for the palm trees, the leaves are cut and hot glued until they look decent!\" 3) The Hammock. Use a small piece of netting to create the hammock, draping it between the two trees and stapling it in place. 4) The Character. We recommend drawing the character freehand or finding a clip art image that can be enlarged, traced, and assembled!
