Vote For Your Favorite Book! - Election Themed Library Bulletin Board

November Election Day and Government Bulletin Board Idea

While this display featured by Abby, librarian in Southern Indiana and blogger at the Association for Library Service to Children {ALSC} Blog, was originally designed for use in the library, we think it would make a fabulous interactive classroom decoration for the weeks leading up to the 2012 election. Whether they vote on their favorite book or another topic of your choice, this is a great opportunity to teach your students {with a hands-on example!} about how the electoral process works!

[NOTE: We love that, as in real life, the patrons at NAFCPL were provided with book 'candidates' that were new to them and, in order to make an informed decision, had to actually read the books to find out what they were about, forming an opinion based on what they read.]

Vote For Your Favorite Book!

  • Background: Red bulletin board paper.
  • Title: "Vote For Your Favorite Book!" - or, of course, a title that fits your election theme!
  • Border: Patriotic trimmer.
  • Decoration: 1) The Candidates. Whether your students will be voting for their favorite book or other 'candidates' that go along with your chosen theme, be sure to find book covers, pictures, or clip art of each 'candidate' to display on the bulletin board. If needed, add labels beneath each picture. [NOTE: You might also include a short profile of each candidate to help your students make an informed decision.] 2) The Election Theme. Fill the empty space on the board with election related cutouts - patriotic stars, a ballot box, ballots, etc.
