Place Value Math Kindergarten Lesson Plan

This super fun and adorable math lesson comes from Abby, educator and creator of the blog, Babbling Abby! We would have never thought to put it together, but marshmallows and Fruit Loops cereal DO make fantastic compliments to an introductory place value exercise! Here's exactly what you'll need to collect for the activity...

  • Place value sorting mats
  • Recording worksheet
  • Toothpicks
  • Marshmallows
  • "O" shaped cereal {Fruit Loops, Apple Jacks, Cheerios, etc.}

Once your kiddos get set up, Abby suggests starting as a group. Call or write out numbers with different quantities of digits and have your kinders set about the task of 'creating them' with the cereal! With a few practice rounds under their belt, send them off to work independently using the recording sheet and their super awesome place value tools!

Not to worry, Abby offers a free download of the place mats and recording sheets, so be sure to head on over to Babbling Abby for the printables and more fun ideas!
