Dr. Seuss Read Across America Matching Game Preschool Printable

How utterly fabulous is this hat matching game from Rachel Kaylynn over at Joyfully Weary?! Fabulous for building visual discrimination and concentration skills, we just know your preschoolers will love this activity!

Not only does the activity look fun, we also love the presentation. The red activity mat really makes the cards pop and the small bowl is a great way to keep all the little pieces organized and ready for the next learner. We think this makes a great individual activity, but you might also convert it into a group activity...

  • Invite students to test their memory/matching skills with a game of concentration. [NOTE: Using the whole 'deck' might be overwhelming, so have your kiddos play with 10 cards at a time!]
  • Print and cut apart two sets of cards, mixing them up in a paper bag. Pass a hat card to each student and, on your count, invite them to race to find their match.
  • Partner students up, dividing one set of cards between the two {each student will have 10 cards}. Place the other full set of cards into a paper bag. Have each pair take turns pulling a card from the bag - if the card matches one of the theirs the student gets to keep the card, but if it is not a match the student must put it back in the bag. The first student to make all their matches, wins! [NOTE: Encourage the students to shake up the bag after each turn.]

We know this printable would be an awesome addition to your Dr. Seuss/Read Across America lesson plans - be sure to visit Joyfully Weary to get your copy!
