Based on the classic game, 'Poison Frogs', Marsha over at A Differentiated Kindergarten created a fun Halloween version - with spiders! - to help her kiddos build letter and sight word recognition! The best part is she provides the game printable for free so that you and your students can enjoy it too!

Here's the gist...

Cut out the game cards {both the letters and sight words} and place them in a black cauldron. On their turn, invite each player to select 1, 2, or 3 spider card(s) from the cauldron. If they can identify the letter or sight word on each card, they get to keep them. If they can't identify the letter or sight word displayed, they must put the card back in the cauldron. The twist - players must pay attention to the amount of cards they select on each turn because they don't want to get stuck with the last card. The last card is a 'poison' spider and results in the player losing the game! After the poison spider is 'uncovered', the other players are then invited to count their cards and the player with the most spider cards, wins!

It may take your preschoolers a bit to get used to the game, but we think they'll have a blast with it once they get the hang of it! For the awesome download, be sure to visit A Differentiated Kindergarten!
