Let Freedom Ring! - Patriotic Bulletin Board

Patriotic Bulletin Board IdeaIndependence Day provides a great opportunity to reflect on our nation's history - how we came to be, who our Founding Fathers were, and what it means to live in a country that is truly free! Often we take our liberties for granted and forget to celebrate/appreciate all that has taken place to ensure that these liberties remain; I think specifically of the brave men and women who have fought to defend our country throughout its history. While this bulletin board is simple, it is sure to compliment your Independence Day lessons, provide a festive decoration for your learning environment, and offer a reminder to be thankful for the many blessings we encounter each and every day!

Let Freedom Ring!

  • Background: White bulletin board paper.
  • Title: "Let Freedom Ring! Land of the free because of the brave!"
  • Border: Patriotic bulletin board trimmer.
  • Decoration: 1) The Fireworks. We suggest using craft paint to add these directly to the background! Start with a solid starburst shape in the middle, then draw alternating long and short lines coming from the shape. [NOTE: You may wish to start by drawing the shapes with a pencil so that you can work with the shape until you like it.] We love the idea of accenting the firework shape with stars. You could use paint to create these as well, add construction paper stars, or even purchase star bulletin board accents. 2) The American Flag/United States Cutout. It may seem a little tricky, but here's how we would tackle the shape. First, we'd use red, white, and royal blue bulletin board paper to create a regular American flag cutout in the appropriate size. Then, using a projector system and a map of the United States, we'd enlarge the map and trace it directly onto the flag cutout, using black permanent marker to darken the outline of the shape. 3) The Liberty Bell. You might be able to find a large bell as part of a bulletin board set, but we suggest simply finding a clip art image online and using your classroom projector system to enlarge and trace the image onto brow and gray bulletin board paper. A black permanent marker will go a long way for adding the detailing - i.e. wood grain, the crack in the bell, etc. - and some medium-dark gray paint will work to accentuate some of the features on the bell.
