In a nutshell, your students will use the white paint to place a full hand print onto their ornament (be sure to keep the plastic ornament trays for drying), then use paint pens to create a snowman from each of their fingers. For small children, we suggest you call in cavalry. While they're certain to be able to complete the first step, the paint pen detailing may be beyond their skill level so ask for the help of room mothers, older student aides, or other teachers on the floor (this could be a fun floor/collective craft) to help you finish the crafts.

You might also consider inviting an older art class to come to the room for a special "art session" where each of your students is assigned to an artist and can dictate design (i.e. hat colors, scarf design, etc.) while the older student creates the snowmen. In this way, your students will feel like they're playing a bigger part in creating the ornament, will practice articulating ideas and giving specific directions, as well as learn to work with colors (in an artistic sense!) and a partner. Not only will this benefit the younger children, it can be a great exercise for the older students too (one that their art teacher might not be able to pass up!)! First, students will enjoy making their own colorful paper by collaging pieces of tissue paper onto a piece of white card stock. Next, students will create their watercolor 'snowscape ', cut trees from their handmade paper, and add the final details {branches, grass, snow, etc}. The results are fabulous! On a small scale, these prints can be used as greeting cards or gift tags, and on a large scale, they can make beautiful decorations for the classroom, festive place mats, etc.

Be sure to visit Back To The Drawing Board for the full tutorial!

Click here to view the suggested products for this craft!

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1418/0968/products/Stained-Glass-Trees_9250a9e9-0443-4637-bbe0-32a3bbe8c00a.jpg?v=1522781878
bottle-cap-snowmen-a2410
Bottle Cap Snowmen

Photo Source: www.whatilivefor.net

Judy over at What I Live For shares a fun tutorial for making bottle cap snowman ornaments and we thought it would be a fun holiday project for crafters, young and old!

Supplies You'll Need

Bottle tops

White craft paint

Paint brushes

Black and orange permanent marker

Festive thin ribbon or yarn

Low temp glue gun or craft glue

The process is uber simple {be sure to check out Judy's blog for the full tutorial}, the only thing young crafters might need help with is corralling their bottle tops in order to glue the ribbon on the back!
