This Thanksgiving, invite your kiddos to participate in a fun collaborative exercise – decorating the classroom gratitude turkey! Here's how it works; in the remaining days leading up to the holiday, have your students come up with one thing every day that they're thankful for. Invite them to script it on a colorful feather cutout {in complete sentences with proper punctuation and grammar!}, attaching it to the bulletin board wherever they can find space! Not only will this create a colorful display for your classroom, it will get your kiddos thinking about the true meaning of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Gratitude Turkey Bulletin Board

  • Background: Yellow or sky blue bulletin board paper.
  • Title: “Filled with Gratitude!”, “Our Gratitude Turkey”, etc.
  • Border: Thanksgiving or fall themed bulletin board border.
  • Decoration: Create a large turkey cutout with two simple pieces – one large brown circle and one medium brown circle. Use colored construction paper to add detailing – orange feet, an orange beak, a red ________, and white/black eyes. Using a card stock template, trace and cut feathers from scrapbook paper in various colors and fun patterns. Decorate the turkey with a few feathers {so that its not bare to begin with} then have your kiddos continue to add their feathers around the turkey and bulletin board.

We think this is a fantastic way to get into the spirit of the season! While the original projects at Little Family Fun were individual {as shown in the picture above} – we think a collaborative effect/bulletin board is a great way to remind your students that we all have a lot to be thankful for!
