Jennifer used word processing software to type and print relevant documents for this board - classroom rules, consequences, and how to earn extra stars. She mounted the rules and consequences onto a large store-bought patriotic chart, but you could easily create your own border for each document with construction paper, craft paint, or word processing software. 2) The Misbehavior Tracking System. Dividing library pockets in half, Jennifer used word processing software to print and label each side with a student's name. She also took a large package of craft sticks and drew a sad face at one end of each. When a student was observed breaking a classroom rule of conduct, a craft stick was placed in their side of the library pocket. Each craft stick also coincided with a consequence, which could be found listed on the consequences poster. 3) The Good Behavior Tracking System. Jennifer used old cutouts and stickers to track student progress. You might also consider having students assemble a flag as they collect good behavior points. Each child starts with a white rectangle, adding red stripes, then a blue rectangle, and finally silver star stickers for every day without an infraction as well as observed good deeds until their star craft is complete. Once complete, students will then earn a trip to the treasure chest, receive an award, etc. While you won't start with a lot of color, it can be fun for students to see their flag forming as they strive to be good classroom citizens. 4) The Embellishments. Jennifer purchased a patriotic bulletin board set, complete with Pledge of allegiance, large flag cutout, etc. You might consider creating several patriotic items of your own to fill in empty spaces as well.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe think this classroom management system and bulletin board are perfect for the early childhood setting! Kay, kindergarten teacher and creator of the blog, wanted to bring a bit of color and whimsy to her classroom so she decided to use the works of the popular children's author, Dr. Seuss, to inspire her designs. You'll need one for each student. Using the same image, crop out the sections you need {i.e. the bow and the three stripes}, paste them all into one document, and print them onto red construction paper. Cut them out and laminate them. Place half of a Velcro dot onto the back of each stripe and bow, attaching the other half to the appropriate spots on the Cat in the Hat cutouts. Mount the cutouts to the bulletin board, along with a name card scripted or printed with each students' name underneath. [NOTE: We created name cards using the font \"Grinched\" and red construction paper.] Add an envelope to the side of the board to hold extra stripes\/stripes that are removed during the day. Students who never received a time-out get to participate for the entire party. Students who received a time-out have to sit out from the party the same amount of time they spent in time-out. For example: a student who received a 5 minute time-out during the semester will miss 5 minutes of the party. Make sure your students are aware of the party (or whatever type of reward you choose) that will take place! If you're a teacher with multiple classes each week (Becca Ruth has 21), set your board up in the same fashion. Assign each class a library pocket and place a 3\" x 5\" index card for each child in the class into the pocket. If you're wanting to use this board for a single class, tack an index card for each child to the board and forgo the library pockets. Then, in the center of the board create your behavior ladder. At the top is Green for Warning. Next comes Yellow for a second warning and 5 minute time-out. Under yellow will be Red for a third warning and 10 minute time-out. And finally, Black for teacher's discipline choice (detention, trip to principal's office, etc).
